Check out our January Newsletter!

The Washington Hospital Teen Outreach is partnering with The Arc of Washington County to offer its fifth annual Washington County Ambassador for Respect Program.  The entire county of Washington, including all 14 School Districts and the Alternative School, will participate in October by focusing on this year's theme - Respect for People of all Abilities.  As part of the Program, students will be encouraged to "End the R-Word"

In honor of this Event, The Washington County Commissioners declared October, "Ambassador of Dignity and Respect Month".  Christy Lewis, Director of The Arc of Washington County, was invited to the Washington County offices for the presentation.

If you have walked past the workshop cafeteria and saw a new face behind the the counter you would be seeing Arlene Konopka. Arlene is Doreen Friend's mother and she has decided to share her baking skills with the ARC Works students and several of our workshop clients. Arlene worked with the individuals to make rolls for the holidays. They made several flavors including nut, cherry, raspberry and apricot.

Welcome to AAdvantage Inc.

Home of the Arc of Washington, Arc Human Services, Residential Recovery Services and the AAdvantage Foundation.

Our History

Arc Washington was established in 1952 by a group of parents of children with mental retardation.  In an effort to adapt to meet the changing needs of our community, Arc Washington restructured its services, resulting in a corporate parent and four subsidiaries.  All four are private, non-profit organizations under Section 501(c) 3 of the Internal Revenue Code.

Our Structure

AAdvantage, Inc. is the parent company and is responsible for providing management and administrative services to all entities in the System.  Services include:

• Human Resources Management
• Fiscal Management
• Information Technology Management

The Arc of Washington County holds our system’s Arc U.S. and Arc PA memberships and is responsible for determining the System’s position on advisory issues of importance and acting as an advocate for individuals having difficulty obtaining access to services.  Its mission is to promote inclusion of developmentally challenged citizens in everyday community life.  Current programs include:

• Arc Connects – Parents & Caregivers Monthly Support Group Meetings
• Education and Systems Advocacy

Arc Human Services Inc. maintains operations for all residential and vocational programming, affirmative employment, and children’s services.  Its mission is to teach individuals skills so that they may live and work in the community.  Current programs include:

• Vocational Rehabilitation
• Sheltered Employment Workshop
• OBRA (services for nursing home residents)
• Residential Services
• Janitorial Services
• Children’s/In-Home Services
• Summer Camp and Social Groups

Residential Recovery Services, Inc. is the mental health subsidiary of Aadvantage, Inc. which provides community residential rehabilitation services for adult mental health clients in Washington, Butler, and Greene Counties.

Current programs include:

• Community Residential Rehabilitation Services (residents live in a home-like setting & receive counseling)
• Mental Health Supportive Housing
• Shelter Plus Care (residents receive similar services as MH Supportive Housing and must meet Federal definition of “homeless”)

AAdvantage Foundation, Inc. supports operations and programming of all subsidiaries of AAdvantage by raising private funds from corporations, foundations, churches, organizations, and individuals.  Fundraising and outreach events help to support services and activities for individuals in all programs throughout the agency.
